The mission of the REACH Foundation is to enrich, inspire, and engage students by providing programs in academics, athletics, and the arts that foster innovation, perseverance, and a lifelong love of learning.
The REACH Foundation provides programs that go beyond the classroom—programs that build confidence, grit, resilience, and skills for life. From middle school athletics to STEM learning labs, these initiatives spark passions, encourage creativity, and promote teamwork, laying a foundation for future success.
Derek, a 6th grader at Golden Elementary, joined the REACH Foundation’s First Lego League (FLL) program this year. At first, Derek was hesitant to participate; he had never been part of an FLL team before and didn’t believe he was good at robotics and problem solving. But with the support of his coaches and teammates, he began exploring his creativity through coding, robotics, and problem-solving challenges. By the end of the season, Derek (third from the right) and his team presented a project on how technology can support ocean explorers as part of the FLL "SubMerged" challenge. Derek’s confidence soared as he helped lead his team’s presentation at the qualifier competition, winning first place for the innovation project!
Today, Derek dreams of becoming an engineer and credits the REACH Foundation with sparking his interest in STEM and helping him believe in himself.
“The REACH Foundation showed me that I can do anything I set my mind to. Now, I want to make the world a better place with what I’ve learned,” Derek says.
Kathy, a shy fifth-grader, began her school year struggling to speak up in class or express her thoughts. On an IEP plan, Kathy (name changed for privacy) often felt like she was falling behind her peers. Battling academic challenges and social anxiety, she doubted her abilities and hesitated to step out of her comfort zone.
Everything changed when Kathy joined the REACH Foundation’s Communicating with Confidence Learning Labs. Through personalized guidance, group activities, and targeted skill-building, she began developing tools to strengthen her confidence. Over time, Kathy discovered her voice and her academic performance improved.
One pivotal moment revealed the depth of her transformation. When her class faced a group challenge, Kathy stepped up to lead her peers. She offered creative solutions and encouragement, and her classmates began to look to her for guidance.
As Kathy continued through the program, her dad noticed significant changes. He said, "She is doing better in school and will be transitioning off IEP soon." In class, she became an active participant, extending her support to classmates who were struggling. “I realized I could help others because I know what it feels like to need support,” Kathy shared proudly.
Today, Kathy is more than a thriving student—she is a leader. She mentors younger students and inspires her peers to believe in themselves. Her journey from self-doubt to self-assurance beautifully illustrates the REACH Foundation’s mission: to empower every student to thrive.
