Building your students' skills in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) are essential for their future as leaders, workers, and global citizens. To meet the demands of our dynamic, ever-changing world, the REACH Foundation collaborates with PYLUSD and key community partners: theCoderSchool, Microsoft, Inside the Outdoors, and others to offer the highest quality programs to PYLUSD students. We have exciting programs planned this year, starting with our Technology program with theCoderSchool. Don't forget to register for the STEM-UP Club to receive more information
about programs this academic year!
Students will be practicing math, logic, and analytical thinking, while designing fun games from the safety and comfort of their homes. theCoderSchool remains committed to your students' education and will adapt whether online, in-person (when permitted), or a hybrid approa
The students will learn how to use Scratch created by MIT and will become familiar with foundational coding concepts such as:
Inputs/Outputs, Variables and Variable Manipulation, If/Then Statements & Conditional Statements, Event Loops (such as For-Loops, While Loops and Forever Loops). In addition to these concepts, students will also learn about the impact of technology in the real world.
According to the National Math & Science Initiative, STEM job creation over the next 10 years will outpace non-STEM jobs, growing 17% as compared to 9.8% for non-STEM positions.
Jobs in computer systems design and related services are projected to grow by 45% between 2008 and 2018. STEM workers can expect higher salaries.
Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Silicon Valley, theCoderSchool combines a super-small teaching ratio with an individualized immersion style to get your kids learning to code in no time! We don’t believe in kids being taught by software, and we don’t like one-size-fits-all curriculums. Instead, we focus on a mentor relationship with experienced coders.
“In a few short months, he has learned to code his own games through Python and Unity. […] I feel like I am giving my son a gift he will carry for the rest of his life.”
– theCoderSchool Irvine Parent
“Seriously impressive school. My kids who are not naturally technical yet have truly adapted to the idea of coding”
– theCoderSchool Cary Parent
Currently only 25% of Information Technology jobs are held by women. Early introduction to the world of coding can change all that. The REACH Foundation began to offering TechGirlz Club classes available to all Placentia-Yorba Linda School District 4th & 5th grade students. Our goal is to provide 4th and 5th grade girls a chance to explore and imagine a future in Tech!
We are pleased to partner with theCoderSchool of Yorba Linda for coding classes.
TechGirlz Club and Coding4All are offered at a reduced rate with donations from the REACH Foundation Community Partners Placentia Rotary Club and Sunrise Rotary Club of Yorba Linda .
