SPELLING BEE VOLUNTEERS!
Let's Review... Can You Spell A-M-A-Z-I-N-G ???
R.E.A.C.H. Foundation's first annual Spelling Bee was held at the beautiful Performing Arts Center on April 18, 2015. It was truly a labor of love on behalf the Foundation's Academics' mission as our many volunteers worked tirelessly from 7:30am to 5:00pm doing their best to put on a District Wide Spelling Bee that would be worthy of our PYLUSD students.
The event was not without first year hiccups, but as the day progressed things smoothed out. Students experienced the big stage at the PAC with their family and friends in the audience. They rose to the challenge of competing against fellow spellers until the final three were left standing.
It was heartwarming to see the care given to those who left the stage early. Both adult volunteers and student competitors help to console those arriving back into the green room. We can be especially proud of the 6th grade competitors who demonstrated the true spirit of sportsmanship with backstage cheering for the finalists!
This was truly a community effort as the Foundation was supported by so many. We'd like to extend a very big thank you to our many volunteers:
Members of Kiwanis from Placentia - Dennis O’Hern, John Lewis and Kathleen Scherger

Principal of the Day at Rio Vista
R.E.A.C.H. President, Julie Nibali, switched hats to spent a day at Rio Vista Elementary as "Principal of the Day". Julie observed classrooms, participated in the Student Awards Assembly and had a wonderful meeting with Principal Plascencia to learn more about their school goals and program successes.
Thank you Rio Vista for the chance to see the passion behind your success and the STEM program in action.
R.E.A.C.H.ing Out to
Some of the best student talent within our district was on display during the month of April. The pieces assembled for ArtWorks! were specially selected by our district art teachers. "Wow", "Amazing", "Awesome" are just some of the frequent comments shared with us. And we couldn't agree more.
This year, the student art sales raised more than $1,500 for the individual classrooms participating in our Event Sales Area. Thank you to all the volunteers and attendees for supporting this important event.
And an extra big THANK YOU to our PYLUSD Art Teachers who help promote creativity with their daily art instruction. We hope the many smiling faces in attendance and comments of admiration add to our words of gratitude.

Special R.E.A.C.H. Supported ART Project
- Submitted by Mrs. Halliday -
“Crossing the Boundaries” is the title of the collaborative art project funded by the R.E.A.C.H. Foundation. On Tuesday, February 24, Mrs. McDonald’s first grade class from Golden Elementary walked to Tuffree Middle School to spend the day exploring, experimenting and having fun while learning with Mrs. Halliday’s
8th grade Visual Arts students.
The students worked their way through eight stations of various activities. They created two extra-large paintings designed to be displayed at the PDA and PAC, practiced reading and measuring skills, experimented with painting techniques, learned how to manipulate Spirograph, and enjoyed visiting with their new buddies.
Both Mrs. Halliday and Mrs. McDonald agreed that this is the first of many collaborative projects to come. Thank you to the R.E.A.C.H. Foundation for supporting our students!
And we at the Foundation would like add we're so glad to be able to support this wonderful collaboration and thank Mrs. Halliday and Mrs. McDonald in return for their passion to make it happen!
